Chimei Museum (No. 66, Sec. 2, Wenhua Rd., Rende Dist., Tainan City) — founded in 1992 by Mr. Wen-Long Shi, this is a renowned private museum with the richest collection in Taiwan. The works of art in Chimei Museum’s permanent exhibition are coming from both Chi Mei Culture Foundation and Mr. Shi’s family private collections; the entire collection totaled more than ten thousand items.
Here, one can find wide collections of Western art, musical instruments, weaponry and natural history. There are four exhibition rooms, one temporary exhibition gallery and a sculpture hall in the main building. The Chimei Museum building was funded and constructed by the Chi Mei Corporation, and donated to the local Tainan City Government by the founder Mr. Wen-Long Shi.
Admission: NT$200 (adult), NT$150 (seniors, students). Free for Tainan City residents, children ages 6 and under, and the disabled. Hours: 9:30 am – 5:30 pm (daily – closed on Wednesday).
